Glacier National Park Trail Work, Montana / August 22-31, 2000
On
Monday, August 21, we the participants met for a potluck dinner
at Apgar Group Campground at West Glacier in Montana.
The first day, we hiked 7 miles to our campsite at the elevation
of 3,800 Miles. Several men from the Park Service provided pack
animal support to carry our food, cooking gear, and tools.
For the three days, we started our project which included digging
the rocks, peeling logs and other chores. We repaired the remote
wilderness trail along the Cold Creek drainage. The long day of
work was exhausting.
Afterwards, we took two days off to explore the scenery of the wilderness.
Fortunately there were no grizzly bears.
On our final day, we hiked back to the campground in West Glacier.
It was a very good experience.
